What to Expect
You’ve probably been in many dental offices – and have a good idea of what is most important to you as you choose a new dentist. Is it the fanciest décor, impressive technology, or attractive advertising? What if you could feel cared for from the first phone call and at every visit? We think how you feel is the most important thing – our whole team is focused on helping you.
For your best care, we perform the latest sterilization and cleanliness standards. We make sure that we have what we need to provide you with the best dental care. We study and use the latest dental materials and the finest dental laboratories. We even make sure our magazines are always new!
Have you ever wished you had more time to talk to your dentist to get your views across? Do you want to be a full partner in your dental health decisions? Commitment to listening to you and your views is a fundamental value in Dr. Carstensen’s dental office. So come to see us prepared to talk about yourself!
Our dental team is friendly, interested in you, and ready to help. Do you have questions about something you’ve heard or read about dentistry? We can help you figure out the answers that make sense to you. Ask anyone at our office – if we don’t know the answer we sure will find out for you.
On your first visit, we will do one of two things for you: take care of pain right away, or we will spend time talking about what you want. We are prepared to gather as much information as we need to understand your conditions and desires, so that we can offer the appropriate choices for dental treatment.
So what can you expect? How about a time for sharing your thoughts, then, to check all the details, we’ll take a low-dose digital X-ray of every tooth, and measure each of those teeth in six places to check for gum disease. Dr. Carstensen will check your jaw joints, chewing muscles, all the soft parts of your mouth for changes or troubles. Each tooth will be examined under magnification to note the healthy parts as well as any areas of concern. It’s very common for Dr. Carstensen to stop to ask you what you remember about your dental history. Don’t worry if you have trouble remembering details!
Dr. Carstensen believes that his service to you does not end with the teeth and gums. During your first visit, at your continuing care visits with the hygienist, or any time you wish, you can have your blood pressure checked. It’s nearly every week that we find high blood pressure for a person who had no idea the risk they are taking! You will also have the opportunity to complete a simple survey for sleep problems.
Dental research has concluded that stress on the teeth, when uncontrolled over many years, is responsible for many serious problems like pain, broken teeth, jaw muscle pain, and can even result in the unexpected loss of a tooth. Dr. Carstensen will examine each tooth carefully for signs of stress; often recommending including a precision set of diagnostic plaster casts be made of your teeth for study. These duplicates of your teeth are aligned on a machine that also duplicates how you chew with your teeth, so they can be studied in the same way you use them. That way, you and Dr. Carstensen can learn about any effects of stress on your teeth and what you can choose to do about it!
